Gradient‐Matched Microstructural Engineering for Fast‐Charging, Damage‐Tolerant Thick Electrodes of Lithium‐Ion Batteries (Adv. Energy Mater. 29/2025)

Lithium-Ion Batteries In article number 2502245, Yuyang Lu, Yong Ni, and co-workers proposed theoretically a multi-gradient microstructure of thick electrodes with tailored conductive networks, porosity, and particle-size distributions that aligns with electron/ion/reaction flux gradients and revealed that such multi-gradient architecture synergistically enhances fast-charging capability and mechanical stability. These findings provided a universal design principle for high-performance, damage-resistant batteries through electrode microstructure engineering.

Abstract

Lithium-Ion Batteries In article number 2502245, Yuyang Lu, Yong Ni, and co-workers proposed theoretically a multi-gradient microstructure of thick electrodes with tailored conductive networks, porosity, and particle-size distributions that aligns with electron/ion/reaction flux gradients and revealed that such multi-gradient architecture synergistically enhances fast-charging capability and mechanical stability. These findings provided a universal design principle for high-performance, damage-resistant batteries through electrode microstructure engineering.
