Emerging trends in advanced herbal pharmaceuticals: From bench to bedside
Herbal medicines, with deep historical roots in traditional systems, are increasingly prominent in contemporary pharmaceutical research. The transition from unrefined plant extracts to scientifically formulated products mark the onset of a new era in advanced herbal pharmaceuticals. This review examines recent advancements in herbal drug delivery, technological innovations such as nanotechnology and artificial intelligence, methods of standardization, and the progress made in both preclinical and clinical settings, as well as the challenges associated with translational applications. The journey from bench to bedside for herbal drugs now encompasses the use of nanocarriers, biosensors, phytotomies, and AI-assisted formulation design, significantly enhancing bioavailability, precision of targeting, and patient compliance. This paper offers a critical evaluation of current trends and prospects for integrating herbal knowledge with contemporary pharmaceutical science.
