Effect of a Novel Cyclic Electroshock Treatment on Charpy Impact Properties of Near‐α Titanium Alloy

This study investigates the effect of a novel cyclic electric shock treatment on the Charpy impact properties of a near‐α titanium alloy. The experimental results show that prolonging the duration of the individual pulses while maintaining a constant energy input significantly enhanced the impact resistance of the Ti‐8Al‐1Mo‐1V alloy. The optimum treatment program uses a 0.1 s pulse duration and 60 cycles and achieves a 16.8% increase in impact toughness. Microstructural analysis indicates that the cyclic electric pulse treatment effectively reduces the geometrically necessary dislocation density, facilitates the transition from low‐angle to high‐angle grain boundaries, and enhances the grain boundary stability. These microstructural evolutions collectively improve the capacity of the alloy for homogeneous plastic deformation under dynamic impact loading. This study provides feasible ideas and an experimental basis for optimizing the impact resistance of key titanium‐alloy components in the aerospace field.
