Hydrophilic and Bioactive Microtexture by Laser Processing on Titanium Alloy Suture Anchor

To improve the bioactivity of suture anchors made of titanium alloy, a picosecond laser is used to efficiently process different groove arrays on the curved surface of suture anchors in this research. The differences in surface profile, surface roughness, surface wettability, and surface biological properties of microtextured anchors are compared. The results show that the groove array obtained by the in situ axial secondary laser scanning has a larger depth and good orderliness with a surface roughness of 26.27 μm. The microtextured anchor surface exhibits hydrophilicity and realizes the antigravity motion of water droplets, which is due to the good orderliness of the structure and increased surface hydroxyl groups. The groove array promotes the growth and adhesion of MC3T3‐E1 with great osteogenic potential. The BMSCs, L929, and MC3T3‐E1 cells proliferate more on the microtextured surface, which can be attributed to the rich microstructures, high surface energy, and good hydrophilicity. Furthermore, a 21% increase in pull‐out force (98.67–119.33 N) indicates that the laser‐modified anchors can provide higher holding force and promote the adhesion of soft tissue products. These findings underscore the potential of laser fabrication to improve the surface bioactivity of complex‐shaped implants.
