INFECÇÃO DO TRATO URINÁRIO E GESTAÇÃO: CARACTERIZAÇÃO E PERFIL DE RESISTÊNCIA DOS MICRO-ORGANISMOS ISOLADOS DE PACIENTES EM UM CENTRO OBSTÉTRICO DE REFERÊNCIA NA AMAZÔNIA OCIDENTAL
Objective: To evaluate the microbial agents causing urinary tract infections (UTIs) and their antimicrobial resistance profiles in pregnant and postpartum women at a reference obstetric center. Methods: A documentary, descriptive, and quantitative study with retrospective data collection from 2020 to 2023 at the Microbiology Laboratory of Hospital de Base “Dr. Ary Pinheiro” in Porto Velho, Brazil. Data from urine cultures and antimicrobial susceptibility tests of patients from the Obstetric Center and Maternity were analyzed using Microsoft® Excel®. The study was approved by the ethics committee according to Resolution CNS nº 466/12, with informed consent waived. Results: Among 2,405 positive urine cultures, Gram-negative bacteria predominated (69.82% to 79.51%), with Escherichia coli being the most prevalent (up to 34.50% in 2023), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterococcus faecalis. There was a progressive increase in resistance to cefuroxime (from 12% in 2020 to 100% since 2022) and ampicillin (over 55%, reaching 78.65% in 2022). Nitrofurantoin maintained low resistance rates. Conclusion: The data highlight the predominance of E. coli and K. pneumoniae in UTIs among pregnant and postpartum women, along with rising antimicrobial resistance, underscoring the need to revise treatment protocols and conduct further studies to reduce maternal and neonatal complications.
