Nad díly Františka Šmahela o dějinách pražské univerzity
The history of the medieval University of Prague represents only one segment in the enormous work of František Šmahel (Trhová Kamenice, 17 August 1934 – Písek, 5 January 2025). However, it is the collection of his works on the history of the oldest university north of the Alps and east of the Rhine that belongs to those thematic units that have already made the young historian a European personality. Moreover, university issues accompanied Šmahel throughout his entire research life. The article therefore seeks to provide a systematic overview and evaluation of Šmahelʼs consistently inspiring studies, books and editions on the subject of the university and to place them in the context of the life work of this important historian.
