Supercapacitive Performance of the Composites of Poly(Ethylene‐Thiosuccinate) With Conductive Polymers
ABSTRACT In this work, the supercapacitor behavior of poly(ethylene‐thiosuccinate) (PETS) as a sulfur‐containing polymer and its composites with conductive polymers including polyaniline (PAni) and polypyrrole (PPy), named PETS/PAni (1:1), and PETS/PPy (1:1), as electrochemically active materials are investigated. As expected, the sulfur percentage is decreased from PETS to PETS/PPy and PETS/PAni composites measured via EDAX analysis, which has indicated the successful preparation of the intended composites. Investigating the cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves of materials coated as thin films on the glassy carbon electrode shows that the shape of the diagram is an ideal rectangle, which indicates the non‐Faradic behavior for the neat PETS electrode, while for the composites of PETS/PAni and PETS/PPy, the behavior changes toward the Faradic process. The shape of the CV curves does not change by increasing the scan rate for all electrodes, indicating the better performance of the electrodes at high scan rates. According to the results of charge/discharge analysis, the specific capacity of the PETS/PPy (1:1) composite electrode at the current density of 0.01 mA cm −2 is 5.2 times higher than the other two electrodes. According to the Nyquist diagram, the value of mass penetration resistance for the PETS/PPy electrode is significantly lower than that of the other two electrodes, which confirms the better capacitive behavior of this composite.
