A Stylistic Analysis of English Annual Report of Energy Enterprise in China

中国石油天然气集团有限公司是中国重要的国有能源企业，其科技创新和企业发展对国内外能源领域的发展建设起到重要作用。本文将运用韩礼德系统功能语言学的理论，从词汇、句式、语篇三个角度，对双语版《中国石油天然气集团有限公司2023年度报告(节选)》进行研究，以提升科技英语文体分析能力。同时，笔者运用连淑能的英汉对比研究的方法，对双语版年报中的表达进行研究。本文发现，研究能源企业年报可助力译员了解能源企业发展状况，提升能源类文本分析、解读能力，更好服务于能源领域的相关翻译。China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) stands as a pivotal state-owned energy enterprise in China, with its technological innovations and corporate development exerting a profound influence on the development and construction of the energy sector both domestically and internationally. This study undertakes an analysis of the bilingual edition of the 2023 Annual Report of China National Petroleum Corporation (Excerpts) from three key linguistic dimensions: vocabulary, sentence structure and discourse. By applying the theoretical framework of Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics, the research aims to enhance the analytical skills pertinent to the genre of English for Science and Technology (EST). Additionally, the author has employed Lian Shuneng’s view in comparison between Chinese and English to delve into the expressions found in the bilingual annual report. This paper finds that studying the annual reports of energy enterprises can assist translators in gaining insights into the development status of these companies, enhancing their ability to analyse and interpret energy-related texts, and thereby better serving translation needs within the energy sector.
