Characterization of survival of patients with head and neck carcinoma treated with nimotuzumab
Background: Few real-world studies report the effectiveness of nimotuzumab in recurrent and/or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC).Objective: To characterize the survival of patients with R/M HNSCC treated with nimotuzumab.Method: A retrospective study was carried out on a series of clinical cases treated with nimotuzumab in the period 2016-2020.results: Fifty-two patients were included. At 12, 24 and 36 months, overall survival was 76.9, 65.4 and 51.9%, respectively, with a mean of 58.2 months, (95% CI, 47.1-69.4)and median of 67 months.Progression-free survival at 12, 24 and 36 months was 67.3, 53.9 and 42.3%, respectively, with a mean of 52 months (95% CI, 40.4-63.6)and median of 44 months. Conclusions: Overall survival and progression-free survival rates were higher than those reported with the exclusive use of conventional treatments and similar/higher/lower than those achieved in other studies when nimotuzumab is used.
