Micro-SORS advancements in heritage science
Micro-Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (micro-SORS) is a cutting-edge technique that enables the non-invasive analysis of the inner portions of cultural heritage artifacts, providing detailed insights into their chemical composition. This presentation highlights recent methodological and technological advancements in micro-SORS, including the development of mapping/imaging capabilities to visualize the distribution of hidden compounds beneath opaque layers, such as concealed text in sealed letters. Furthermore, the article explores novel applications of micro-SORS in the study of degraded plastics used in contemporary art and design.
