Beyond DFW Rates: What Gems Do Individual Assignments Hold?
ABSTRACT Knowledge is power. The more information that faculty acquire, the better able they are to engage in practices that contribute to student success. Gradescope and technologies like it are tools that empower faculty by giving them access to a wide range of information about the grading ecosystem. At the authors’ university, assessment professionals examined disaggregated data across a number of variables such as course grades, student characteristics (race/ethnicity, first time in college / transfer, Pell eligible / not Pell eligible), student behaviors (students who viewed feedback), and test item difficulty to investigate whether or not equity grading gaps existed.
