SER-PESSOA-IDOSA: SAÚDE MENTAL E DESAFIOS DA LONGEVIDADE
This article aims to propose a reflection on the challenges of longevity and their impact on the mental health of older adults. This is a descriptive study, based on an integrative review, guided by the question: How has the knowledge produced about older adults addressed the challenges of longevity and their impact on mental health? Longevity is a complex achievement resulting from the interaction of multiple factors that can be classified into broad categories, including genetics, lifestyle, environment, mental health, and access to medical care. Thus, socioeconomic and demographic conditions influence the quality and life expectancy of older adults. Among the crucial aspects that influence the mental health and well-being of older adults are the risk of falls, sexual experiences, functional limitations, and mental health. The results presented in the studies indicate the urgency of adopting comprehensive approaches that include prevention, intervention, and ongoing support to address these challenges. Raising awareness of the challenges of longevity can help reduce the stigma associated with mental health problems and promote early interventions.
