MoveLeg Optimization: Preventive, adaptative and perfective maintenance in embedded system for robotic-assisted mirror therapy in lower limb.

“MoveLeg” system is a low-cost device designed to improve physical rehabilitation in the lower limb by automating passive therapy and integrating robot-assisted mirror therapy (RMT) functionality. However, it needs help with resource efficiency, adaptability in the prototyping process, and extensibility of functionalities. This study proposes a comprehensive optimization of “MoveLeg” system at a technical level, focused on improving its robustness, reliability, efficiency, portability, scalability, and flexibility, essential features for its commercialization. A hardware and software maintenance process is carried out with preventive, adaptive, and perfective aspects, identifying areas of improvement addressed through the use of the ESP-32 DEVKIT V1 development module, the implementation of FreeRTOS, and the organization of the software in modular layers. These improvements allow easy adaptation to sensor and actuator changes, as well as preparing the system for the incorporation of new functionalities such as monitoring for teletherapy, serious games, and real-time data analysis through a graphical interface hosted on a mobile device and connected via Bluetooth Low Energy. The optimization of the system allows its use in clinical environments, improves its commercial viability, facilitates maintenance, and reduces manufacturing costs and energy consumption.
