Geogebra and Phet: Support Tools for Learning Mathematics in a Secondary School Located in a Rural Area of Antioquia, Colombia

Mathematics often poses significant challenges in teaching and learning due to its inherent complexity. To address these challenges, educators must employ tools and strategies that enhance the educational process. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of PhET and GeoGebra as supplementary tools in teaching and learning mathematics among students in rural institutions in Antioquia, Colombia. Using a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group and a control group, the study conducted pretests and posttests to measure the effectiveness of these tools. Analysis of the results using the Kruskal-Wallis test with a significance level of 0.05 revealed significantly low p-values: 1.27e-06 for perimeter, 2.50e-08 for polygon area, 1.68e-05 for composite figures, and 2.30e-08 for perimeter and area application exercises. These results confirm that GeoGebra and PhET have a significant impact on mathematics learning. Additionally, the offline functionality of these tools makes them particularly valuable in rural institutions lacking internet access, facilitating the inclusion of these students in technological advancements.

These results confirm that GeoGebra and PhET have a significant impact on mathematics learning. Additionally, the offline functionality of these tools makes them particularly valuable in rural institutions lacking internet access, facilitating the inclusion of these students in technological advancements.
