A Systematic Review of 10 Years of Serious Video Games Development for Therapeutic Purposes
The need for new treatment in mental health care has led to the development of technological applications based on serious game approaches. These approaches have facilitated the development of serious games based on a brain-computer interface (BCI) for dealing with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These BCI-based videogames can offer cognitive and neurofeedback training to children living with ADHD. This paper presents a systematic review of the last 10 years on the study and development of this type of technological systems. As a result of this review, some challenges and opportunities that researchers and engineers must address to improve this recently introduced technology in healthcare have been identified.
