The impact of sports activities on emotional intelligence among youths in Nepal

This study examines the association between high school students' emotional intelligence (EI) and involvement in sports in Kathmandu, Nepal. It observes how sports participation's enjoyment, physical fitness, skill development, and social benefits influence EI. The study utilized a standardized survey questionnaire to gather data from 387 high school students in grades 8, 9, and 10 in Kathmandu Valley, the capital city of Nepal. We performed regression analysis on the data to investigate how the predictors affected EI. The findings show that skill development and social benefits were the most important determinants of EI, whereas enjoyment and physical fitness had negligible and statistically insignificant effects. Through improving interpersonal, emotional, and self-regulation skills, skill development positively impacts EI. Social benefits like engagement and teamwork significantly impacted EI, highlighting the significance of collaborative settings for emotional development. These results demonstrate how important sports' social and developmental components are in promoting EI, especially in teenagers. According to the study, to effectively foster EI, sports programs should place a high priority on social interaction and skill-building exercises. Future studies could look more closely at the long-term impacts of playing sports and how particular sports, levels of competition, and socio-cultural elements affect the development of EI. With ramifications for educational and extracurricular programming, this study adds to the expanding corpus of research on sports' emotional and social development.
