SAMOPROCENA STUDENATA – BUDUĆIH UČITELJA – O NJIHOVOJ KOMPETENTNOSTI ZA REALIZACIJU NASTAVE LIKOVNE KULTURE

Students of the Faculty of Education, University of Belgrade (FE) during their four-year undergraduate studies have three compulsory courses in the field of visual art education. The question arises whether two mandatory one-semester courses (Visual Arts and Methodology of Teaching Visual Arts 1) and one two-semester course (Methodology of Teaching Visual Arts 2) suffice for students to feel competent to teach visual arts in the lower grades of primary school. The research was conducted with the aim of determining the views of the FE students in terms of their ability to competently teach visual arts at lower primary school grades. It examined students’ opinion whether they have mastered teaching art media and processes, as well as if they gained knowledge of the methodology of teaching visual arts. The respondents were the students in the fourth year of undergraduate studies at the Department for primary school teacher education (N=50). The results of the research provided us with a clearer picture of the respondents’ perception of their knowledge and competences in the field of visual art education that they acquire at the Faculty. Based on the survey conducted, students believed they have different levels of competence in three mandatory courses. We will consider which elements of teaching at undergraduate studies need to be improved and changed in order to students successfully implement teaching of visual arts in future work.
