Lean Construction: Proposition of an Integrative Framework for its Adoption
The construction industry is frequently associated with excessive waste, safety hazards, and significant process variability. In this context, Lean Construction (LC) is considered a methodology for improving company management in the construction industry. However, the adoption of LC in the construction industry currently faces numerous challenges. Although various LC frameworks have been developed, most concentrate on specific aspects of the LC adoption process, such as identifying barriers or assessing the maturity level of LC. This study aims to provide a holistic framework for LC adoption that covers all stages of implementation, thereby addressing the shortcomings of existing fragmented approaches and supporting construction companies in improving their operations. To achieve this objective, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted across multiple databases to identify and analyze articles presenting frameworks or conceptual models for LC adoption. Based on these findings, a conceptual framework was developed to guide effective LC implementation. This framework advances LC research by integrating best practices from existing models into a comprehensive approach. It provides a step-by-step guide tailored for practical application, addressing key dimensions of LC adoption, such as customer value, waste identification, and barrier analysis. Grounded in a SLR, the framework offers robust and relevant guidance, bridging gaps in existing models and enabling the implementation of a holistic and systematic LC.
