THE INTEGRATION OF TAWHID AND ISLAMIC PSYCHOSPIRITUALITY IN ADDRESSING THE IDENTITY CRISIS OF MUSLIM GENERATION Z

Muslim Generation Z is facing a complex identity crisis due to the influence of globalization, the rapid development of social media, cultural shifts and the impact of secularism and moral relativism. This situation has profound social, psychological and spiritual implications for Generation Z. This article explores how the integration of the concept of tawhid and the Islamic psychospiritual approach can serve as an effective solution to these challenges. Tawhid, as the foundation of faith, cultivates self-awareness centered on Allah SWT, while the Islamic psychospiritual approach, which includes the cultivation of the qalb (heart), acts of worship and a focus on the Hereafter can enhance mental and spiritual well-being. This study employs a qualitative approach through a comprehensive literature analysis. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources including books, journal article and research reports. The data were analyzed descriptively with emphasis on in-depth understanding of the relevant texts and contexts. The findings indicate that strengthening the values of tawhid and engaging in psychospiritual practices can help Muslim Generation Z build a strong and balanced identity in navigating the challenges of the digital era. The concept of tawhid fosters awareness of one's role as a servant and vicegerent of Allah SWT while Islamic psychospirituality offers guidance grounded in the principles of Sufi teachings such as repentance (tawbah), contentment (qana‘ah), asceticism (zuhd), certainty (yaqin), patience (sabr), trust in God (tawakkul), humility (tawadhu’) and acceptance (rida), complemented by spiritual meditative practices such as supplication (du‘a), remembrance of God (dhikr) and recitation of the Qur’an, all of which are part of the purification of the soul (tazkiyah al-nafs) process.
