Movie Recommendation System Content and Collaborative Filtering Using Machine Learning

This Streamlit web application implements a robust and interactive Movie Recommendation System that combines both Content-Based Filtering and Collaborative Filtering techniques to provide personalized movie suggestions. The system is designed to enhance user engagement by analyzing both movie metadata and user behavior. The Content-Based Filtering module relies on natural language processing (NLP) techniques to recommend movies similar to a user-selected title. It utilizes TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) vectorization to transform textual movie overviews into numerical vectors, capturing the importance of words across the dataset. These vectors are then compared using cosine similarity, allowing the system to identify and recommend movies with similar content and themes. The Collaborative Filtering module focuses on user preferences by analyzing patterns in a user-item interaction matrix. Specifically, it applies Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to decompose the matrix and predict missing ratings. This approach helps estimate how much a user would like a movie they haven't rated yet, enabling personalized recommendations even without textual metadata. Users can input a user ID and movie ID to retrieve a predicted rating based on historical rating patterns. The application is built with Streamlit to provide an easy-to-use and visually interactive web interface. Backend operations are handled using Pandas for data preprocessing, NumPy for efficient numerical computation, and Scikit-learn for implementing machine learning models and similarity measures. To optimize performance and reduce redundant computations, data caching is implemented using the @st.cache_data decorator, ensuring smooth and responsive user interactions. This dual-method recommendation engine is highly scalable and adaptable to various datasets and domains. It demonstrates how hybrid machine learning models can be effectively deployed in web applications to enhance decision-making and user satisfaction in real-time. Abstract
