The Multidimensional Impacts of Generative AI in Vocational English Learning: An Empirical Study on Chinese Students Perceptions, Learning Outcomes, and Potential Risks

In this empirical study, the researchers delved deep into the multidimensional impacts of generative AI on vocational English learning among Chinese students. Mixed methods analysis of 46 participants from Beijing Polytechnic were conducted. In this study, both positive feedback on generative AI's roles and concerns about the shortcomings were investigated. What's more, qualitative insights based on the open-ended questions highlight demands for balanced integration and ethical guidelines when using artificial intelligent tool in language learning. Based on the data and results, actionable recommendations to not only educators and students, but also developers are proposed, so as to solve the current obstacles holistically. Researchers hence advocate a “human-AI collaborative” model to maximize AI's strengths while at the same time addressing risks, offering a series of actionable strategies for educators to improve language learning in vocational English learning contexts.
