ENHANCING ESP FOR STEM STUDENTS: AI TOOLS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON LANGUAGE AND CONTENT LEARNING
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education presents challenges and opportunities, especially for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students whose academic and professional development is tightly linked to technological advancement. This study explores how AI tools can enhance English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction for STEM master’s students by improving their language proficiency and subject-matter knowledge. The research aims twofold: to examine the impact of AI integration into ESP instruction and formulate practical recommendations for its implementation. Drawing on a theoretical analysis of current academic literature (2022–2025) and instructional practices, the study identifies that AI applications such as personalized learning pathways, automated assessment systems, and virtual tutors contribute to improved academic outcomes, greater student engagement, and tailored educational experiences. AI-enhanced tools also help simulate real-world professional contexts, foster essential soft skills like communication and problem-solving, and support inclusive and self-directed learning. The findings confirm that integrating AI in ESP for STEM students bridges gaps in content-specific language instruction, enhances motivation for self-study, and offers dynamic learning opportunities that align with industry needs. Based on this analysis, the study presents a set of pedagogical and technological recommendations for educators and institutions to responsibly and effectively adopt AI in ESP instruction. These conclusions contribute to the broader discourse on the role of AI in higher education and highlight its potential to modernize and personalize learning for future professionals.
