Evaluation of various aspects of the biological cover of the periphyton forming in the Caspian Sea and study of the composition of the coating used to protect against corrosion

The taxonomic composition, abundance, and biomass of periphyton organisms of various classes in oil and gas fields developed by SOCAR are studied by year and season. When peripheral organisms multiply excessively in water, they cover the surface of reservoirs, reduce light transmission and disrupt the oxygen regime of the water, causing biological contamination. In shipbuilding and industry, the accumulation of periphyton on devices made of metal and other materials creates serious problems, in particular, it accelerates the process of biological corrosion.Periphyton organisms form a biological coating on the underwater parts of ship hulls, which leads to a decrease in the speed of ships.Corrosion of offshore platforms, structures, and equipment used in oil and gas production weakens the structure.Biological deposits in water pipes and cooling systems reduce the flow rate and cause clogging. The reason for the widespread use of anti-corrosion coatings in industry is not only their effectiveness, but also their universal properties and economic feasibility. For this reason, studies have been conducted on the use of paint coatings based on resorcinol-formaldehyde oligomer modified with oxamide to protect equipment and structures operated in marine conditions from corrosion. For comparison, parallel studies were conducted with both the modified oligomer and the unmodified resorcinol-formaldehyde oligomer.Based on the research results, it was determined that it is more expedient to use an oligomer obtained as a result of modification of the resorcinol-formaldehyde oligomer synthesized by the copolycondensation reaction as a binder for obtaining an environmentally friendly composite material
