Preparation and investigation of biopolymer-filled polyvinyl chloride-based composites

This article is dedicated to the preparation of a composite based on polyvinyl chloride. The research object involved the use of suspension-polymerized polyvinyl chloride, which is commonly employed in industry.A plastisol based on polyvinyl chloride and dioctyl phthalate was initially prepared, followed by the addition of a filler -wood sawdust -containing various amounts of waste. The composite was prepared by mixing these components using a mechanical mixer at a temperature of 80C for 15-20 min. Then, the filling process was carried out using a mechanochemical method in a laboratory capillary viscometer at temperatures of 140, 150 and 160C, and under a wide range of shear stress values. The filler, wood sawdust, was added to the matrix in amounts of 5, 10 and 15 part mass.In order to confirm the completion of the mechanochemical process, infrared (IR) spectra of both the initial componentswood sawdust and polyvinyl chloride: dioctyl phthalate plastisol and the polymer composite prepared using the mechanochemical method were recorded. The analysis of the spectra revealed that the IR spectrum of the mechanochemically filled composite material displayed absorption bands characteristic of both wood sawdust and polyvinyl chloride: dioctyl phthalate plastisol, which confirms the successful completion of the mechanochemical process.Subsequently, the rheological properties of the polymer mixtures prepared in all proportions were studied to confirm the homogeneity of the polymer composites. The flow characteristics of the composite materials at different temperatures and under varying loads were determined, and their rheological properties were investigated
