Design of non-isolated DC-DC converter-based LED driver for electric vehicle

This paper introduces a non-isolated DC-DC converter (NIDDC) tailored for automotive lighting, addressing the challenges of high-power consumption and voltage sensitivity in conventional systems. This system employs two switches to reduce the voltage stress across the switches and improve the system efficiency by 94%. The NIDDC converter is designed in such a way that it has reduced voltage and current ripple. Conduction and switching losses are calculated to evaluate system efficiency, validated through simulation in MATLAB software, and the realization of a 70 W power-rated prototype. Extensive testing under wide input voltage variations (10 to 50 V) for a 30 V/0.7A light-emitting diode (LED) string confirms the NIDDC's robustness and effectiveness in real-world conditions, offering a promising solution for enhancing automotive headlight performance and safety.
