KINETIC STUDY OF CIPROFLOXACIN HYDROCHLORIDE WITH BASIC SODIUM P-TOLUENESULFOCHLORAMIDE
The kinetic studies of Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride by sodium N-chloro toluene sulfonamide were assessed by spectrophotometric means in an alkaline aqueous system. The oxidation process proceeds with first-order kinetics for both Chloramine-T and [CPH]. Equimolar quantities of reactants and products are involved in the reaction. Studies revealed that the reaction proceeds with first-order kinetics concerning both Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride and Chloramine-T. The study also includes the effect of altering substrate and oxidant concentrations. The oxidized compound was determined to be Ciprofloxacin oxide, based on GC-MS and FTIR results. The rate constant, along with activation parameters, has been estimated. A higher concentration of alkali led to an enhancement in the reaction rate. NaClO₄-induced ionic strength exerts a minor effect on the reaction rate. The impact of halide ions and medium polarity (relative permittivity) on reaction rate was analyzed. Thermodynamic variables were also computed and studied.
