Biosorption Of 4,4-Ddt from Aqueous Solution Using Moringa Oleifera Pods

The effectiveness of chemical and thermal pre-treatments on moringa oleifera pod was employed in this investigation as a potent bio-sorbent for Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) for removal from aqueous solution. The surface chemistry of the Moringa Oliefera pod was characterized using pH at point of zero charge, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The adsorption experiments were conducted in batch at 25, 30 and 45 0 C, both kinetics and equilibrium adsorption tests were performed. Pesticide removal was pH-dependent and found to be maximum at pH 3.5. Adsorption kinetics confirmed that 4,4-DDT adsorption follows a pseudo second - order adsorption kinetic model. The thermodynamic study allows concluding the spontaneous and endothermic character of the adsorption process
