LITERATURE REVIEW OF CONTEMPORARY MALAYSIAN STUDENT POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT

Political engagement of university and college students in Malaysia is now a complex phenomenon and is influenced by various factors, including education, social experience, and the university environment. Universities have a responsibility to provide a platform that supports student political engagement and develop the skills needed to actively engage in society. This study is a systematic literature review (SLR). The research method used is document analysis of articles written from 2020 to 2023 related to student involvement in politics. By involving five basic things, namely the influence of media and information technology, education and academic exposure, current issues and social conditions, campus environment, and finally social and family background. This study found 30 articles related to student voters that can be linked to the GE and youth political engagement starting from articles written from 2020 to 2023, using the specified keywords or issues. After filtering, 15 articles were accepted and the final details only 7 articles were accepted. The fluctuating trend of student political engagement shows that their political awareness still depends on external conditions and is not a continuous culture. This situation has a direct impact on the country's political system, which can lead to weak political stability and fewer young politicians as replacements.
