Effectiveness of Fertilization in Yield Formation of Millet in the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe

Aim. Aim was to determine the peculiarities of yield formation in millet depending on the variants of basic fertilization and its combination with foliar application of micronutrients within the cultivation technology. Methods. Field experiment, laboratory analysis, analytical method, mathematical and statistical analysis, comparative and calculation methods. Results. In the agrocenoses, the highest plant height (139.5 cm), the greatest above-ground biomass (29.7 g/plant), and the largest number of second-order tillers were recorded in the treatment with application of N₄₅P₆₀K₆₀ + N₁₅ and foliar feeding at the tillering stage using the micronutrient fertilizer Braman Multicomplex (2.0 L/ha). Foliar application of Braman Multicomplex led to an increase in grain yield by 0.22 t/ha in the unfertilized control and by 0.49 t/ha in the treatment with N₄₅P₆₀K₆₀ + N₁₅. Overall, the maximum grain yield of 5.01 t/ha (compared to 3.09 t/ha in the control) was obtained with a cultivation technology that included the application of N₄₅P₆₀K₆₀ + N₁₅ and foliar feeding with Braman Multicomplex at the IV stage of organogenesis. Conclusions. Under the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe on dark gray podzolic loamy soils, the most effective agronomic practice for cultivating the Zapovitne variety of millet is the combined application of mineral fertilizers and foliar feeding with micronutrients at the IV stage of organogenesis. The identified patterns of growth, development, and productivity formation in millet depending on the fertilization system are essential for further improvement of cultivation technologies.
