Structure, Function, and Role of KCTD9 in Human Diseases

KCTD9 (novel potassium channel-related gene) is a member of the potassium channel tetradomain (KCTD) gene family. It is named for its N-terminal conserved BTB domain, which shares sequence similarity with voltage-gated potassium channels. KCTD9 can interact with CUL3 to mediate the ubiquitination of target proteins and plays an important role in the growth, development, and function of NK cells. Initial studies began with the discovery of its high expression in severe hepatitis B, followed by findings of its important antitumor effects in several malignant tumors, such as lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer. In recent years, reports on KCTD9 have increased, but there are almost no comprehensive reviews of it. Based on this, we provide a review of KCTD9’s structure, function, and role in human diseases, and introduce the structure, function, and role of its family members in human diseases.
