A IMPORTÂNCIA DE DIAGNOSTICAR AS MANIFESTAÇÕES BUCAIS DO LATENTE VÍRUS HIV: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Oral manifestations are present in most individuals infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and may represent the first clinical signs of infection, especially in its latent phase. In this context, the dental surgeon’s role in Primary Health Care (PHC) is essential, since this professional is in a strategic position to identify oral changes suggestive of infection and refer the patient for timely diagnosis and treatment. This study aims to understand the main oral manifestations related to HIV and highlight the importance of the dental surgeon in the diagnostic process within the multidisciplinary health team. This is a narrative review of the literature, carried out through searches in PubMed and Google Scholar databases, focusing on relevant publications of recent years. The appreciation of dental performance in screening and early recognition of these changes contributes to the control of the disease, reduction of transmissibility and improvement of patient’s quality of life.
