The effect of hot-dip galvanization on the fire resistance of steel structural members
<ns3:p>The selected results of experimental research on fire resistance of hot-dip galvanized steel structural members are presented in this paper. Experimental studies carried out included fire tests of full-scale steel composite beams, various types of steel joints and three types of specimens. The composite beams were made of S355J2, S460M and S690QL steel grades, while the specimens were made of S355J2+N steel, which was classified in category B or D according to PN-EN ISO 14713-2 standard. Weathered and unweathered specimens were taken into account. As a result, proposed values of surface emissivity have been presented. The potential impact of soot has been also taken into account. The use of the recommended emissivity values in the fire resistance analysis can reduce the need for expensive fireproof insulation.</ns3:p>
