What can autism professionals learn from psychoanalysis? This article is addressed to autism professionals and is intended to enhance the knowledge of autism professionals of the psychoanalytic literature on autism. Historical and current psychoanalytic insights into the development and treatment of autism are reviewed. The possible benefits of an integration of the psychoanalytic and the behavioural scientific view on autism are discussed.
