La Actividad Apícola en Comunidades Rurales: Revisión de Literatura
This paper presents a literature review focused on beekeeping activities in rural communities and the profile of those involved in this practice. The reviewed articles were grouped into four thematic areas: the production process, the typology of beekeepers, commercialization, and the role of bees in ecosystem conservation. In Mexico, beekeeping is an underrecognized activity, yet it holds significant value for many rural families. The analysis shows that most beekeepers work individually, with limited resources and little collective organization. Additionally, challenges were identified in honey commercialization, including dependence on intermediaries and low market prices, which restrict producers’ income. Nevertheless, beekeeping contributes meaningfully to household economies. Furthermore, the production process and the adoption of good practices are closely linked to local customs. Finally, the reviewed literature highlights the essential role of bees in ecosystem conservation, emphasizing their contribution to pollination and environmental balance.
