Effect of magnetic pressure on shock propagation through a dense bubble in a gas

This paper presents the results of a highly resolved numerical simulation of a planar shock interacting with a bubble that is denser than the ambient medium. For present study also, we take magnetic field. The case of the heavy cylindrical bubble presented here in quite similar to that studied experimentally by Haas and Sturtevant. In the experiments air was the ambient gas and the bubble contained Freon-22. In contrast to earlier work, the present simulation studies in detail the wave structure produced as the shock propagates through and around the bubble influence of magnetic pressure. We have used multidimensional algorithm, FEM-FCT, for our study. The new method combines finite element techniques, Flux-Corrected Transport, and an unstructured triangular grid to resolve flows and boundaries characterized by complex geometries. Our calculation serves to demonstrate these capabilities.
