A METALINGUISTIC VIEW OF MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is the abstract representation of various concrete aspects in existence. The world is governed by rules of mathematics either in our conscious thinking or in subconscious reality. The rules of mathematics underlie the reality. The knowledge of mathematics enables one to live in a organized way in life. Indeed our day-to-day life is blessed with mathematical calculation and laws of mathematical probabilities. This paper will discuss the ways and means by which mathematics can develop the life skills of the future generation. The present paper will also draw upon how mathematics has become one of the many dimensions of identity. The third point of discussion would be how mathematics can integrate knowledge and experience. Thus the objectives formed accordingly for the present work are a) to discuss mathematics as the base for teaching life skills, b) to analyze mathematics as the base for social identity, and c) to present mathematics to integrate knowledge and experience. The method of the study for the present research work was to rely on content analysis. The work was intended to determine the presence of certain words, themes, or concepts within some given context in mathematics. Through content analysis this paper attempts to quantify and analyze the presence, meanings, and relationships of such certain words, themes, or concepts, which should be solved with set square and compass not only on paper but also in assessing and solving the complexities in our broader life.
