The significance of WHOQOL-BREF for patient who admitted in the Medical Oncology Ward

Purpose This study aims to evaluate participants' ability to answer questions and assess the effectiveness of the (World Health Organisation’s Quality of Life questionnaire Brief version) WHOQOL-BREF tool in measuring quality of life (QoL) in the oncological population, taking into account the life expectancy of patients in the Medical Oncology Ward. Specifically, this research examines the accuracy of using the WHOQOL-BREF to measure QoL in this particular group of individuals. Method For baseline assessment, Patients who accepted to participate in the study had their data gathered, demographic characteristics recorded, and the WHOQOL-BREF, which comprises of 26 items, was administered during three follow-ups. Results By properly analysing the WHOQOL questions, the responses provided by the patients were assessed for reliability and understanding in order to determine their appropriateness in the oncological population. The findings indicate that all four domains and two independent items have low to moderate discrimination. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test in deprescribing group showed the p value of 0.186 in quality of life (baseline and third follow up), in the item of satisfied with health (p= 0.316), physical domain (p= 0.942), psychological domain (p= 0.980), social domain (p=0.179) and environmental domain (p=0.459). Conclusion the brief World Health Organization Quality of Life is a reliable and valid health-related tool for quality of life in cancer patients.
