Analyzing "Virtual" and "Real" in the Omnimedia Era from a "Post-" Perspective: A Case Study of the Films The Truman Show and Successor
The current society has entered an omnimedia era dominated by digital technology and artificial intelligence. In this context, individuals' information has become increasingly open and transparent, and various technologies conduct more precise analysis and calculation of personal information, facilitating people's social life. However, while technology transforms social life, numerous simulacrum symbols have quietly infiltrated people's lives, making it difficult for the public to distinguish between reality and illusion. Postmodernism deconstructs the current society to conduct rational speculation. Films are an objective reflection of social phenomena in a certain period, and postmodern films serve as an important medium for viewing society from a postmodern perspective. By applying postmodern theories of scholars such as Baudrillard, Debord, Xiang Biao, and Zhuangzi, this paper compares and analyzes the two films The Truman Show and Successor, exploring social problems emerging in the omnimedia era from postmodern perspectives, as well as the causes of these problems under different cultural backgrounds and social environments in China and the West. Based on these causes, it looks forward to the future.
