Zakres regulacji mediów w kontekście teorii liberalnej
The Scope of Media Regulation in the Context of Liberal Theory Traditionally, the media in a democratic political system has been credited with the role of informing, commenting on and monitoring the activities of rival political actors, as well as creating space for political debates. However, the importance of the media in political communication is so huge that in the concepts of some researchers, the media are treated as political institutions, which play a significant political role and are as much a part of the governance process as political parties and interest groups. The subject of the article will be an indication of the relationship between the world of media and the world of politics in the light of the liberal media theory, which is the normative basis for the establishment of media law in liberal democracies. The experience of recent years, including presidential and parliamentary elections in the so-called old and new democracies, has shown that the progressive technological change and the commercialization of the media pose new challenges regarding the scope of media regulation, the importance of which for the integrity of political procedures and equal opportunities of competing actors in them remains relevant. Presenting a political science and media studies perspectives, the authors will point out areas requiring regulation, which in their opinion are particularly sensitive and difficult to codify.
