En busca de los sentimientos de fidelidad: Las estrategias discursivas presentes en la Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima (1810-1816)
The Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima was the key medium used by Viceroy Abascal to neutralize revolutionary ideas and consolidate loyalty to the Crown in a context of crisis and rebellion. This study analyzes the discursive strategies employed by the newspaper to reinforce viceregal loyalty. The article is divided into three parts: first, it examines the impact of the 1808 crisis in Latin America and Abascal’s policies; then, it explores the circumstances of the viceroyalty that motivated the creation of the Gaceta; and finally, it analyzes its discursive strategies. These include the publication of lists of donors, the exaltation of towns under royal protection, letters addressed to the people, poems, the denigration of “infidel” territories, the caricature of revolutionary leaders, and detailed accounts of battles. These resources sought to shape a social imaginary aligned with the monarchy, turning the press into an essential tool of political control.
