NECESSITY TO PROTECT INDIAN TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM
India has a deep and rich traditional knowledge system (TKS) and has contributed to the world. The practice of the Indian TKS, such as civil engineering, agriculture, water management, health system, education, literature, etc., is scientific and based on sustainable development. But the Indian Traditional Knowledge System (ITKS) was always overlooked and not given much recognition by the Western world. History explained that due to the richness of resources and the nature of Indian culture, world powers are always attracted and exploit the Indian sub-continent, which results in much traditional knowledge being molded or vanishing. The contributions of ITKS to the world should never be ignored, and the recognition of ITKS is necessary to protect judicially. The present paper is an effort to highlight the issues to advocate the necessity of ITKS and the initiatives taken by the Government of India.
