Quantitative substituent effects in nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons: implications for metal ion complexation
N -PAHs 1a–f with varied substituents were synthesized. Substituent effects showed linear correlations among Hammett constants ( σ ), HOMO/LUMO levels, and log K a for Zn 2+ binding, while optical properties followed an inverted V -trend.
