1.7 μm Fiber Laser Using Cascaded Bismuth and Thulium Doped Fiber

We compare continuous-wave (CW) fiber lasers operating in the 1.7 μm wavelength range using Bismuth (Bi)-doped, Thulium (Tm)-doped, and cascaded Bi-doped and Tm-doped fibers. We demonstrate that utilizing a cascaded Bi-doped fiber (BDF) and Tm-doped fiber (TDF) results in higher slope efficiency (SE) compared to using either BDF or TDF alone.

Abstract

We compare continuous-wave (CW) fiber lasers operating in the 1.7 μm wavelength range using Bismuth (Bi)-doped, Thulium (Tm)-doped, and cascaded Bi-doped and Tm-doped fibers. We demonstrate that utilizing a cascaded Bi-doped fiber (BDF) and Tm-doped fiber (TDF) results in higher slope efficiency (SE) compared to using either BDF or TDF alone.
