Micro-Transfer-Printed Micro-Optical Elements

Photonic systems can benefit from micro-optical elements that redirect or otherwise passively process light. In this work, such micro-optical structures are made using additive printing and micro-transfer printed onto a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) substrate. Micro-prisms micro-transfer printed into a cavity in a PIC substrate redirect light from or into a waveguide in the PIC substrate with improved optical efficiency.

Abstract

Photonic systems can benefit from micro-optical elements that redirect or otherwise passively process light. In this work, such micro-optical structures are made using additive printing and micro-transfer printed onto a photonic integrated circuit (PIC) substrate. Micro-prisms micro-transfer printed into a cavity in a PIC substrate redirect light from or into a waveguide in the PIC substrate with improved optical efficiency.
