Violence against women on social networks in Serbia

Violence against women on social networks is a growing social problem that reflects deeper gender inequalities in the modern digital age. This paper analyzes the phenomenon of gender-based violence on social networks from a theoretical, legislative and empirical perspective, pointing to specific forms of violence, their consequences and proposals for improving prevention and protection of victims. A special focus is on the perception of vulnerability, the frequency of different forms of violence, and the connection with socio-demographic characteristics. The aim is to identify the main forms of violence, assess their impact on victims, and analyze perceptions of violence against women on social networks. The sample consists of 352 women. The results indicate that the majority of respondents do not perceive social networks as equally safe for men and women. The conclusion proposes certain measures to improve the legislative framework, strengthen institutional capacities, educate the public, and create support networks for victims.
