The Role of the Digital Economy in Alleviating Population Pressure under Resource Constraints: Empirical Evidence from Guangdong Province

This research carried out an empirical analysis from the digital economy development data in Guangdong Province to determine its impacts on population pressure level under resource constraints. Through analysis using the random forest regression model, Pearson correlation coefficient analysis, as well as linear regression analysis, the study concluded that there is a negative slight correlation between the digital economy index and population pressure. In addition, this negative impact tends to decrease with the development of the digital economy. The digital economy positively impact population pressure by the increase in resources, economic activity and general welfare. On the other hand, the mitigating impact of the digital economy on population pressure is weak as resource and environmental constraints are increasingly observed. This study expands the discourse on digital economy and population pressure relationship, which will be useful for policymakers to ease the negative impacts of sustainable digital economy development, resource distribution and population pressure management strategies.
