Neoexpresionismo y post-punk en el réquiem por Ian Curtis
The British band Joy Division was the greatest exponent of the style known as post-punk. Their dark sound, the pessimism of their lyrics and a mise en scène inherited from German Expressionism contributed to increase their aura of a damned music group. The premature death in 1980 of its leader Ian Curtis, at only 23 years old, only increased the legend. One of the responsibles for strengthening the band's aesthetics was the Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn. After continuing his career as a highly successful director of music videos, his big screen debut would occur in 2007 with the acclaimed film Control, based on the life of Ian Curtis. This story had already been previously told by the English director Michael Winterbottom in his film 24 Hour Party People (2002). In this study we will compare the approaches to the same subject by two very different directors and we will try to prove the expressionist legacy in post-punk aesthetics and, more specifically, in Corbijn's work.
