Metabolic consequences of maintenance mistakes in captivity of testudines
The order Testudinata includes both marine and terrestrial turtles. It originated in the Late Triassic. Subsequently, this group has undergone significant morphological and ecological diversification, reaching a total of 25 families throughout evolutionary history. The care of turtles in captivity involves reproducing as closely as possible the ecological conditions characteristic of their natural habitat in order to prevent physiological and metabolic disorders. In their natural environment, these reptiles regulate their essential biological functions through complex interactions with environmental factors such as UVB exposure, thermal variability and seasonal food availability.
