Particularities and pathologic vulnerabilities of the Pomeranian breed

The Pomeranian is a small dog breed, notable for its distinctive appearance and alert, intelligent and affectionate behavior. Although highly appreciated as a pet, this dog is predisposed to multiple conditions associated with its miniature morphology and genetic peculiarities. The most common pathologies encountered in this breed are described in detail, including dental conditions (gingivitis, periodontitis, occlusion anomalies), persistent fontanelle and congenital hydrocephalus, neonatal hypoglycemia, alopecia X, reverse sneezing, tracheal collapse, cardiomyopathies (congenital and acquired) and patellar luxation, with the physiopathological particularities of the breed. The effective management of these conditions requires a preventive approach, rigorous monitoring and, in severe cases, surgical interventions or pharmacological treatments targeted at the vulnerabilities of this breed, knowledge of which becomes essential for maintaining a good quality of life and preventing systemic complications.
