Cornea and foreign bodies

Corneal trauma caused by foreign bodies is common in dogs and cats, and can cause ulcers or perforation of the cornea. The presence of foreign bodies in the cornea causes ocular pain, translated into blepharospasm, epiphora and exaggerated pruritus. Blinking causes pain, which is why the patient keeps his eye closed. Foreign bodies can be attached to the surface of the cornea or penetrating, and the therapeutic approach is different.
